Hyper-V host checklist (NLCRC).
Hardware
- CPU virtualisation enabled in UEFI; enough RAM for host + guests.
- Separate virtual switch for lab vs production when possible.
Host setup
1) Install Hyper-V role / Windows optional feature.
2) Create an External vSwitch bound to the correct NIC.
3) Store VHDs on a volume with backups — not a random USB disk.
Guests
- Generation 2 VMs for modern OS; Secure Boot as required.
- Checkpoints for short experiments only — not a backup strategy.
Document host name, vSwitch names, and where VHDs live.
