Discrete GPU card checklist (desktop) in plain English for NLCRC. Power first - External PCIe power plugs seated; 12 V present under load. - VRM phases: look for burnt chokes, open high-side FETs, or missing controller enables. Memory / core - Artifacting or instant driver crash can be VRAM or core VRM ripple — reflow myths will not replace a measured short. - Test in a known-good PC with minimal other variables. Display path - Try both HDMI and DisplayPort; rule out cable/monitor. - Laptop MXM / soldered GPU is a different workflow — treat as board-level, not a swap-in card. Post GPU model, PSU wattage, resistance on core/VRAM rails if measured, and whether another card works in the same PC.
