Concepts
- Entra ID is the identity plane for Microsoft 365 and many Azure resources.
- Devices can be Entra joined, hybrid joined, or registered — behaviour differs for BitLocker escrow and login.
Shop impact
- Board swaps may need device re-registration / Autopilot reprovision.
- BitLocker keys often live in Entra — search the device object before wiping TPM.
Admin hygiene
- Use privileged roles sparingly; prefer PIM when the tenant has it.
- Do not create permanent Global Admin accounts for every engineer.
