Paraphrased NLCRC checklist for “works on PSU, pack stays at 0% / not charging” (theme common on repair forums; original English for this site).
Prove the pack first
- Known-good pack if available. A protected pack that will not close its FETs looks like a dead charge IC.
- Pack ID / SMBus / 1-wire presence depending on design.
Charge path vs system path
- System may run from adapter bus while charge path to CELL+/pack is open or current-limited to zero.
- Measure charge FET gates and pack-side voltage during a charge attempt — not only at idle.
Common mistakes
- Replacing the charge IC before confirming sense resistors, thermistor, and EC enable.
- Ignoring ACIN / ACOK / CHG_OK style flags the EC needs before enabling charge.
- Using a pack with wrong capacity/ID on locked OEM designs.
Document adapter voltage, pack voltage, charge current (if any), and IC part number before swapping silicon.
